Athletic Bilbao held by Basque rivals Eibar

Aritz Aduriz opened the scoring for Athletic Bilbao before Kike earned Eibar a share of the spoils.

An Athletic Bilbao side without reported Manchester City target Aymeric Laporte drew 1-1 at home with Basque rivals Eibar.

The 23-year-old centre-back has been a virtual ever-present for Athletic this season and was initially named in Jose Angel Ziganda’s 20-man squad for the LaLiga clash.

His absence will further fuel speculation he is about to complete a move to Pep Guardiola’s runaway Premier League leaders and his team missed him on Friday night.

Aritz Aduriz’s 13th goal of the season was unlucky for Eibar as the veteran striker put the hosts in front five minutes after the break.

Victory would have seen Athletic move up to seventh place in the table but Ziganda’s side have struggled to get wins of late and they conceded midway through the second half when Kike equalised.

The result extended Athletic’s run to 10 games without defeat in La Liga but that run consists of seven draws.
