Bellamy hails 'Midas' O'Neill as current world No1 manager

By Steven Beacom

Former Liverpool and Celtic striker Craig Bellamy believes no manager in the world is doing a better job right now than Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill.

Bellamy's comments come on the back of another stunning result for O'Neill, who is well on the way to becoming the first Northern Ireland manager to lead the nation to two successive major tournaments having savoured Euro 2016 last year.

At the weekend O'Neill's side won 1-0 in Azerbaijan, thanks to a stoppage time strike from Stuart Dallas, to move four points clear in second spot in their World Cup qualifying group. Stay there and they will clinch a November play-off, with a place in next year's finals in Russia at stake. Throughout European football, O'Neill has been commended for what he has achieved, but ex-Welsh hero Bellamy has offered the highest praise yet."If there is anyone doing a better job in world football I would be surprised," he said.
