Bolt targets football career at Manchester United

The former sprinter will have a trial with Borussia Dortmund on Friday but dreams of playing at Old Trafford.

Usain Bolt has spoken to Jose Mourinho about a possible playing career at Old Trafford.

The 31-year-old called time on his record-breaking sprinting career last summer and is hoping to be given a chance in football.

Bolt, a big Manchester United fan, will have a trial with Borussia Dortmund on Friday that will decide whether his dreams of playing professionally remain just that.

He told espn.co.uk: “That will determine for me, personally, if I continue or if I say, ‘You know what? I’m probably not good enough’. It’s what happens in the next two days.”

Bolt, who will play in the Soccer Aid charity match at Old Trafford in June, revealed he has already asked United boss Mourinho to sign him.

“I’ve definitely asked him for a spot on the team, but as I said, I just want to wait until after the trials to really push and to really pressure,” said Bolt. “It’s something I said to him, and he said, ‘If you’re serious, we’ll see what happens,’ so let’s see what happens.”

Bolt’s preferred position is left wing or up front, and he added: “I’m fast, so it’s definitely kind of all about using my speed. It’s something that I’ve used over the years, actually playing with my friends and stuff, so it’s something that I’m just looking forward to.”
