Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho takes out Olly Murs as tempers flare at charity Soccer Aid match

Rest of the World defeated England 4-2

By Jack de Menezes

A season’s worth of pent up frustration was released in one moment when Chelsea manger Jose Mourinho sprinted out of his technical box to take out a star footballer at Old Trafford.

Ok, so that might be bending the truth a little bit, but the footballer in question was pop singer Olly Murs and the match was the annual Soccer Aid contest between England and the Rest of the World with celebrities and football legends making up the two sides.

Mourinho was coaching the Rest of the World side, and with England launching a swift counter attack down the left flank at the Theatre of Dreams, the Chelsea manager took matters into his own hands to prevent his side conceding the first goal of the match.

As he sent Murs crashing to the ground, the Portuguese turned around and retreated to the dug-out with his familiar mischievous smile on his face.

Of course it’s not the first time Mourinho has invaded the pitch. He was fined earlier this season for doing the same in the Premier League defeat to Aston Villa, although yesterday’s match was in a much lighter heart than the 1-0 defeat in March.

However, the same can’t be said for Edgar Davids and Jonathan Wilkes, whose battle throughout the game grew to such a level that Davids delivered a forearm smash to Wilkes face when the pair squared up after a rash challenge from the former Netherlands international.

The two were eventually separated and Davids booked, while the game finished 4-2 in favour of the Rest of the World in a match that has so far raised over £4.2m for charity. At least Mourinho didn’t end the season completely trophyless.
