Confirmed: John Terry joins Aston Villa as club chief takes swipe at city rivals
Former Chelsea skipper John Terry will play his football in the Championship next season.
That's after Aston Villa owner Tony Xia confirmed his signature in a tweet. Doing so, he couldn't resist an opportunity to have a dig at Birmingham City, who were also said to have been interested in the central defender.
Terry, 36, had been linked with Premier League sides including West Brom and Swansea but reportedly did not wish to play against his former club Chelsea. Sky Sports have reported that his deal to join Villa was set to be "one of the most lucrative ever signed by a player in English football's second tier" and that Terry could earn £4M if his new club earn promotion
Villa, of course, were relegated from the Premier League in 2016 and finished a lowly 13th in the Championship last season.
