Darren Ferguson absent for ‘family reasons’ as Doncaster are beaten by Wigan

Gavin Strachan took charge as the Latics were confirmed as League One champions.

Doncaster manager Darren Ferguson missed his side’s final game of the League One season against Wigan due to “family reasons”.

Rovers announced just prior to kick-off on Saturday that their boss would not be in attendance at the Keepmoat Stadium.

A club statement read: “Rovers manager Darren Ferguson will not be at Saturday’s game due to family reasons.

“(Assistant manager) Gavin Strachan will oversee the final game of the Sky Bet League One season in the manager’s absence.

“Darren asks for privacy, and will provide an update through the club during the week.”

Ferugson is the son of former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

His Doncaster side were beaten 1-0 by Wigan, who were confirmed as League One champions.
