Belfast's Stephen Mallon has joined Derry City on a six month loan deal from Sheffield United.

City, of course, had Northern Ireland Under 21 international David Parkhouse on loan from the Blades for the 2019 season and, after his return to United, have effectively swapped him with Republic of Ireland U19 international Mallon.

The Poleglass man can play across the front line and also at left-back.

He arrives at Derry having become used to sunnier climbs. Mallon, 21, spent the second half of the 18/19 season on loan at Central Coast Mariners in the A League, scoring one league goal; a curling free-kick against Wellington Phoenix.

"David (Parkhouse) is a good friend and spoke highly of the (League of Ireland)," he said. "David has put himself in a miles better position than he was before. That's something I want to do. He's been held in high regard since he has gone back (to Sheffield United)."
