Manchester United 1 - 1 Bayern Munich: 'It was a tough game and a good result' says Nemanja Vidic
Manchester United will go to Munich for the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final with Bayern boosted in confidence after a 1-1 draw on Tuesday.
United surprised many with arguably their most competent performance of the season at Old Trafford.
Skipper Nemanja Vidic put them ahead in the wake of a battering on the possession counter, only for Bastian Schweinsteiger to level for the defending champions.
There was much to admire about United's display, though, and they now have something to build on.
"It was a tough game and a good result," Vidic told ITV.
"We felt we had good positions and were solid, but one mistake was punished and they showed what a good team they are.
"They had a lot of possession but we accepted they would and we tried to counter attack.
"I think it will be the same game next week. They will have the same possession, especially as it's their own ground, but if we keep the shape we can hurt them with our pace."
Former United captain Roy Keane, often a critical voice, was watching for television and saw positives.
"They've got a chance," he said.
"It's a fair result, the manager, players and fans played their part. You can't begrudge Bayern their equaliser, but Manchester United are more than capable of scoring in the away game.
"We've seen United not turn up in big games, so they should go to Bayern with their confidence boosted."
Manager David Moyes was happy with his side but urged caution too.
"The players played really well, I'm delighted," he said. "I'm disappointed we conceded a goal, but it was really gutsy and I'm really pleased.
"The players had a real determination to make sure we did well. It's a competition we have a good history in and the players realised we were playing a good side.
"We know we have to score a goal. At the moment, if the scores say the same, Bayern win and we know we have to do something about it. But we've given ourselves a great opportunity."
