The real Pogba stands up

By Carl Markham

Paul Pogba sizzled for Manchester United on the same night their neighbours were brought down to earth with a bang in the Champions League.

While City crashed to a surprise 2-1 defeat against Lyon at the Etihad Stadium, United cruised to a 3-0 victory over Young Boys in Bern. Pogba rediscovered his swagger, scoring twice and providing an assist for Anthony Martial as United opened their Group H campaign in style.

Boss Jose Mourinho hailed his midfield maestro, saying: "Solid, class, he gave the team the pace we needed at times and kept possession to control the tempo. It was a very good goal and the penalty showed personality after he missed the last one he took (against Burnley)."

City boss Pep Guardiola, who was serving a touchline ban, watched the horror unfold from the stand. Assistant boss Mikel Arteta said: "It is disappointing. We are usually strong at home. Now you have to go and win away from home."
