Folan becomes a Blue

Caleb Folan has become Birmingham's second major capture of the day after joining the npower Championship promotion chasers on a free transfer until the end of the season.

The out-of-contract striker has been on trial at City since his release by MLS side Colorado Rapids at the start of February and has impressed manager Chris Hughton, who has been keen to add to his forward options.

Folan, 29, moved to the US from Hull in March 2011 but lasted less than a year across the Atlantic before mutually parting ways with the Rapids on February 3, scoring six goals in 26 appearances.

Folan's arrival at St Andrew's follows that of defender Peter Ramage on loan from QPR until the end of the season, while Cian Hughton - son of Birmingham boss Chris - has also penned a deal with the midlands club.

Hughton has been busy bolstering his ranks over the last seven days in preparation for City's final push for promotion, with forward Erik Huseklepp and winger Andros Townsend arriving on loan deals from Portsmouth and Tottenham respectively last week.
