Glenavon give Cup final hero Patton go-ahead to find new club

Glenavon last night placed 2014 Irish Cup final winning goalscorer Mark Patton on the transfer list at his own request.

Winger Patton asked for a move with his opportunities limited this season to four starts and two substitute appearances, scoring one goal in the 2-1 Mid-Ulster Cup quarter final victory away to Armagh City.

He will depart a hero to Glenavon fans for his winner in the 2014 Irish Cup Final when the Lurgan Blues defeated Ballymena United 2-1. All told, he started 77 games for the club, plus 53 as sub, scoring 23 goals.

Glenavon are among a group of Irish League clubs involved in Christmas food collections for the less fortunate this weekend.

Fans attending the Glentoran-Ballinamallard and Cliftonville-Glenavon games are being asked to bring along food items to make up Christmas hampersfor distribution by Homeless charities and Foodbank organisations.

Lists of items most required are available on the Glentoran and Cliftonvlle official club websites.
