Glentoran midfielder Corey McMullan fires Ulster University to Farquhar Cup success but Queen's lose Collingwood final

Ulster University 1-0 Maynooth University / QUB 1-2 UCD

Ulster University have won the 2018 Farquhar Cup as a single strike was enough to see off final opponents Maynooth University.

A fifth minute finish from Glentoran midfielder Corey McMullan was the only goal of the game as UU edged out their opponents at QUB and win the 2018 Rustlers Farquhar Cup.

UU had beaten Mary Immaculate College 2-1 in the semi-final thanks to second half goals from Stephen Duffy and Johnny Courtney.

The Farquhar Cup is a subsidiary competition of the main Rustlers Collingwood Cup.

And in the final of the top competition, Queen's were looking to get their hands on the trophy for the first time since 1985 but fell short with a crushing extra-time defeat to UCD.

Timmy Molloy put the Dubliners ahead before Ronan Young hauled Queen's level on 43 minutes. The hosts' quest for an historic title was boosted on the stroke of half-time when UCD's Georgie Kelly was dismissed.

However, Daire O'Connor, who was soon to be crowned Player of the Tournament, bagged a last gasp winner for UCD, two minutes into second-half injury-time.
