Glentoran suffer narrow defeat

Nine-man Glentoran gave themselves a fighting chance of progressing past the first qualifying round of the Europa League after a battling 2-1 defeat to Renova in Macedonia.

Despite Muarem Bajrami's winner three minutes from time, the Belfast side will head home with confidence after playing with 10 men for the majority of the match following Jamie McGovern's 13th minute red card.

Boban Janevski opened the scoring from the resulting penalty but Colin Nixon grabbed a potentially crucial equaliser in first-half injury time. After Bajrami's late strike, Glens goalkeeper Elliot Morris was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Northern Ireland rivals Cliftonville will also fancy their chances after grabbing a 1-1 draw with The New Saints in Oswestry. Alex Darlington's 26th-minute opener for the home side was cancelled out by Barry Johnston six minutes before the interval.

League of Ireland champions St Patrick's Athletic still have hope after a 1-0 defeat to IBV in Reykjavik. St Pat's missed a host of good chances and Andri Olafsson's 50th-minute penalty made the difference.
