Immobile’s second half brace helps Lazio beat Verona

Lazio return to winning ways after three successive league defeats.

Lazio laboured to a 2-0 home win against relegation threatened Verona on Monday night to revive their Champions League qualification hopes.

Talisman Ciro Immobile scored both goals early in the second half as the Biancocelesti got their top-four challenge back on track following three successive Serie A defeats.

The hosts were frustrated during a first half which saw Immobile, Wallace, and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic all fail to make the most of decent chances.

Luis Alberto went close to scoring when his right-foot shot from outside the penalty area struck the crossbar.

Immobile turned in a cross from Luis Alberto to make the breakthrough after 55 minutes and then headed a second goal on the hour to take his tally for the campaign to 28 in all competitions.

Simone Calvano went close with a long range effort late on for Verona, who remain second-bottom of the table and five points from safety after a seventh defeat in eight league matches.
