Belfast-bound Ronaldo furious at Real Madrid selling Ozil

By Steven Beacom

Cristiano Ronaldo flew into Belfast today intent on taking some of his fury and frustration out on injury ravaged Northern Ireland in tomorrow's World Cup qualifier at Windsor Park.

The Real Madrid superstar is “angry” that Mezut Ozil has left the Bernabeu for Arsenal in a £42.5million move, feeling he and the German midfielder had developed a great understanding during their time together in Spain.

Ronaldo's ego will also have been dented by Gareth Bale arriving from Tottenham for a world record £86million fee, usurping the Portugal star's status as the highest priced player at the club.

And of course the former Manchester United hero has a score to settle with Michael O'Neill's men who ruined his big night last October when he won his 100th cap but was left gutted when the visitors gained a 1-1 draw.

Aberdeen's Niall McGinn scored in that game. The proud Tyrone man is keen to make Ronaldo feel bad again.

“Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world and for a wee country boy from Donaghmore to score on a special night for him was fantastic. He came off the pitch bitterly disappointed and we hope that is the case this time as well,” said McGinn.
