Evans adds to Worthington’s troubles
Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington fears Carling Cup winner Jonny Evans will add to his selection woes ahead of tomorrow night’s friendly with Albania.
Centre half Evans picked up a knock to the back of his knee during Sunday’s final against Aston Villa and despite travelling to Tirana with his international team-mates yesterday was unable to train last night.
Worthington said: “He’s receiving treatment from our medical team. We’ll assess him in the morning and if there is any doubt over him we’ll send him back to Manchester United.”
If Evans is ruled out, Worthington will call up Jonny’s brother Corry from the under-21s.
Meanwhile, the Irish FA last night awarded Newry City a 2-1 victory from their abandoned JJB Sports Irish Cup clash against Larne. City will now face Loughgall at Lakeview Park in the sixth round on Saturday. Both clubs are still facing a charge of bringing the game into disrepute.
