Faroes do Northern Ireland a favour

Northern Ireland received a big favour from the Faroe Islands last night as Brian Kerr’s Euro 2012 Group C minnows defeated Estonia 2-0.

An Estonia win would have put them four points clear of Northern Ireland but goals either side of half-time from Frodi Benjaminsen — a penalty — and Arnbjorn Hansen secured victory for the home side.

Nigel Worthington’s side still lie fifth in the group but have games in hand on all opponents.

The Faroes are next up for Northern Ireland when they visit Windsor Park on August 10.
