Hutton upbeat despite dose of shootout pain

Northern Ireland women's Adriatic adventure in the Istraia Cup ended in a penalty shoot-out defeat following a goal-less draw with Bosnia & Herzegovina in Rovinj.

There was no revenge for Alfie Wylie's charges, who were seeking redemption for the 1-0 reverse in Zenica last June.

Captain Ashley Hutton was inches shy of latching on to a Julie Nelson free-kick but the Bosnians had the better chances, most notably after 85 minutes when Ellie Butterwick made a goal-line clearance.

The game ended on a sour note after Hutton was sent off following a robust challenge.

Tournament rules meant any final game had to end with an inconsequential penalty shootout, which Wylie's girls lost 5-4.

Hutton said: "We are rebuilding the team and the players here have shown the passion, commitment and drive to play for the Northern Ireland shirt and I don't see any reason why we will not do well in the next campaign."
