Jamal Lewis has been given a significant boost in his battle to return from injury.

Norwich manager Daniel Farke had warned of a potential long-term spell on the sidelines, suspecting a broken elbow after the full-back fell awkwardly during Saturday's Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace.

However, Lewis was named in the Northern Ireland squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifier in the Netherlands and friendly in the Czech Republic.

International manager Michael O'Neill is hopeful that 21-year-old can be fit in time to take to the pitch in Rotterdam next Thursday.

"My understanding is that x-ray didn't show any fracture," he said. "There is ligament damage there and I think it's just a case of how he can protect the elbow and manage to play. We'll see how things develop for him this week and at Norwich as well.

"We have until next Thursday so there's a little bit longer for the healing process. Having spoken to him during the week, he's optimistic as we have to be as well. He's been such a significant player for us and would be a very difficult player for us to replace if he wasn't available."

Lewis now has 11 caps for Northern Ireland and has become integral to O'Neill's high-energy, high-pressing style.

The news will be welcomed at Carrow Road as well as Windsor Park, with Lewis making a pleasing start to life in the Premier League.

Norwich host Aston Villa on Saturday in the final game before the international window.
