Kyle Lafferty scores first goal for Sarsborg despite being dropped to the bench
Kyle Lafferty is off the mark in Norway despite being left on the bench for Sarpsborg 08 in their 1-1 draw at home to Brann.
The 32-year-old admitted manager Geir Bakke was right to leave him out of the starting XI for the first time since his arrival last month.
But Lafferty made his case to be reinstated to the line-up when he scored an 89th minute equaliser, 20 minutes after being brought on.
It's only the striker's third goal of 2019, following strikes at Cowdenbeath and Hamilton for Rangers at the start of the year.
"It was good to get the first goal for Sarpsborg. It was an important point," Lafferty said. "The manager chose to start with me on the bench today, and that was probably right. Amin (Askar) could have shot himself, but he sent the ball to me."
Lafferty, despite being sent off on his club debut, has helped bring in an upturn in fortunes for his new club.
They have lost just once in their six games since his arrival in Norway and have climbed off bottom spot in the Eliteserien. They now sit third from bottom, above Strømsgodset on goal difference and two points clear of Mjøndalen.
Lafferty impressed for Northern Ireland earlier this month when he played 66 minutes against the Netherlands.
