McGibbon: O'Neill will go for Grigg

By Graham Luney

Former Wigan hero Pat McGibbon believes Will Grigg must be in Michael O'Neill's thoughts as the Northern Ireland boss considers his squad for the friendly against South Korea at Windsor Park on March 24.

Grigg hasn't been in the Northern Ireland panel since November 2016 but he is back on O'Neill's radar after smashing Manchester City's quadruple dream.

His late winner against the Premier League leaders fired Wigan into the FA Cup quarter-finals.

"Anyone who is performing this well at club level is sure to attract Michael's attention," said McGibbon who earned seven Northern Ireland caps and made 210 appearances for Wigan between 1997 and 2002.

"His confidence is high, he is scoring goals and when you are knocking Manchester City out of the FA Cup and in prolific form, an international recall must be a possibility."
