Mexico next up as U-21s show class in Spain

Northern Ireland's Under-21s will play the second match of their week-long training camp at Estepona on the Costa Del Sol this evening.

Ian Baraclough's side will take on Mexico at the Estadio Municipal de Marbella.

A Shayne Lavery goal was enough to give the team a 1-0 win against Bulgaria on Friday.

Falkirk striker Lavery, who is on loan from Everton, found the net in the 18th minute.

It was the fourth win on the bounce for the Under-21s, who finished second to Spain in Qualifying Group 2 for the 2019 U21 Euros and narrowly missed out on a play-off.

The training camp is stage one of preparations for the 2021 Under-21 Euros qualifying campaign, which gets under way with a game against Malta in September and Ian Baraclough's side will also face Denmark, Romania, Ukraine and Finland in Qualifying Group 8.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland's Under-17s suffered a second defeat in the elite round of the 2019 Under-17 Euro qualifiers, losing 2-0 at the hands of the Czech Republic.

The result means Stephen Frail's men - who play Israel in their third and final group game tomorrow - are now bottom of Group 2 following a 5-0 defeat to the Netherlands.
