Northern Ireland fall three places in Fifa world rankings after Euro 2016 heroics

Northern Ireland have fallen three places in the Fifa world rankings after their performance at Euro 2016.

Before the tournament, the international team had reached their best ever position of 25 in the rankings but after getting knocked out by Wales in the final 16, they have moved down the table to number 28.

Michael O'Neill's men overcame the odds to progress from their group - which featured World Champions Germany - before they were knocked out by eventual semi-finalists Wales.

Following their success Wales climbed 15 places to number 11.

Rivals England fell two places to number 13 after their humiliating defeat to Iceland who rose to 12 places to 22nd.

The Republic of Ireland have gone from number 33 to 31 after their success in reaching the final 16.

European Champions Portugal have risen two places to reach number six behind Argentina, Belguim, Colombia, Germany and Chile.
