But how did the individual players fare in the 2-0 loss to Bosnia & Herzegovinia?

Steven Beacom casts his eye over the individual displays:

Starting XI

Bailey Peacock Farrell 6: Michael O’Neill clearly sees the Leeds youngster as his number one now. Solid when called upon. Couldn’t do anything about Dzeko’s goals.

Paddy McNair 6: Another appearance at right-back for the man from Ballyclare. Still learning the position. Wasn’t as threatening going forward as he was in Austria.

Jonny Evans 6: Was steady at the back though he’ll be glad to see the back of Bosnia’s main man Dzeko who he used to face in Manchester derbies.

Craig Cathcart 6: Rarely looks flustered in international football these days but the quality of Dzeko in attack made it a testing night for the Watford defender.

Jamal Lewis 6: Bright start and fine cross to set up a George Saville chance but his slip led to Dzeko’s first goal. Educational experience for Norwich man.

Steven Davis 6: Began with real intent and delivered a stunning cross which Saville should have scored from. He was quieter once Bosnia went ahead.

Oliver Norwood 5: Passing was sharp when the visitors were on top but found wanting when Bosnia took control. Booked and misses game versus Austria.

George Saville 7: Much more energetic than in Vienna. Missed a glorious opportunity, then hit the post with a clever volley. Also had a long distance drive saved.

Stuart Dallas 6: Kicked-off in an attacking role and ended up at right-back. Caught out of position for Bosnia’s second goal moments after moving into defence.

Liam Boyce 7: Overcame an injury worry to start and had a fine game. Isolated at times but held the ball up superbly. Impressive showing.

Corry Evans 5: Captain for the night as he won his 50th cap, it was a proud night for him and he worked hard. Little going forward from the younger Evans.

Substitutions

Gavin Whyte (Norwood 58) 6: Hit the post when he should have hit the net. Also had a cross deflected against the woodwork.

Kyle Vassell (McNair 71) 5: Won his second cap but, like in Austria, didn’t make an impression.

Josh Magennis (Boyce 80) 5: The big Bolton forward did not have enough time to make an impact on the game.
