Ports ace Redman is called up to under-19s

By Stuart McKinley

Portadown full-back Ross Redman has been rewarded for his performances this season with a call-up to the Northern Ireland under-19 squad.

Mal Donaghy's youngsters will assemble at Lilleshall on Sunday for a four-day get-together in preparation for the European Championship qualifying tournament in Cyrpus at the end of October.

Redman has started every game for the Ports this season at left-back after breaking into the team at the latter end of last season, impressing in a number of Setanta Sports Cup games.

Donaghy's squad has a slightly different look to that which lost heavily in a friendly against Switzerland last month.

He is hoping that a friendly fixture can be arranged next week which will allow the team to restore confidence after the disappointing result against the Swiss.
