The Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland met tonight for the first time in seven years in an international friendly at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

The encounter ended in an unremarkable 0-0 draw, with neither side managing to find the net.

Both sides have only recorded two wins in their last 10 games, and have struggled for goals in their recent matches.

The last time the two teams played each other in 2011, the Republic were 5-0 winners in a largely forgettable Carling Nations Cup match in Dublin.

Northern Ireland will take on Austria this Sunday having been relegated from their Nations League group.
