Search begins for new Northern Ireland boss

By Steven Beacom

The Irish FA board will meet tonight to start the search for the man who can revive Northern Ireland’s footballing fortunes.

Irish FA President Jim Shaw last night outlined that the governing body are determined to appoint a new manager who will “resurrect our international team”.

No pressure, then.

Ever since Nigel Worthington stepped down as boss earlier this month, a host of names have been mentioned in relation to the post.

Tonight the IFA powerbrokers will discuss the vacancy and how to fill it with Jim Magilton now odds on favourite to get the job. He would be a popular choice with the fans, but so too would another former Windsor Park favourite, Iain Dowie.

They will both be talked about at length tonight at Windsor Avenue, along with a few others, including those above.

Northern Ireland football is at a low ebb. We need someone to lift the mood and inspire the team and the fans. The IFA must get the right man for the job.
