Shane Duffy signs for Brighton in record club transfer fee

Republic of Ireland international Shane Duffy has joined Chris Hughton's Brighton from Blackburn Rovers in a deal believed to be worth £4m.

The Derry native, who has been the subject of a lot of transfer speculation, joins the Seagulls on a four-year deal and is available for tomorrow's game with Newcastle United.

Hughton said: "I'm delighted that our perseverance has finally paid off and we've completed the signing of Shane; he's an excellent addition for us.

"He has a lot of experience for his age, having played in the Premier League, Championship, Europa League and international football for Ireland.

"He's a very good defender, and alongside our existing options he now gives me four quality, senior options for the two central defensive positions."

Duffy spent the early part of his career at Everton but left Goodison Park for Blackburn Rovers in September, 2014.

He will be looking to improve on his current form at his new club, having scored three own goals already this season.
