Slovenia v Northern Ireland: O’Connor stunned by snub from Worthington
Slovenia v Northern Ireland: Michael O’Connor has blasted Nigel Worthington for leaving him out of the Northern Ireland squad for the Slovenia showdown.
The Scunthorpe United midfielder cannot believe he has been overlooked while the former Norwich City chief has called up rookies Johnny Gorman and Corry Evans.
Gorman hasn’t even played a first team game for Wolves while Evans is waiting on his first Premier League appearance at Manchester United.
Meanwhile, O’Connor (pictured) who turned his back on the Republic of Ireland to win nine caps for Northern Ireland, has been in sensational form for the Championship side.
The 22-year-old said: “I'm disappointed to miss out, but we haven’t really spoken about it.
“He (Worthington) has just told me he wants to pick players who are playing football at a higher standard.
“I'm doing okay, but he’s picking 17 or 18-year-old lads who are mostly playing reserve football. But good luck to those who have been called up. I've not got anything against them.
“I've just got to get my head down here and keep playing well for Scunthorpe. I thought I’d done enough to get in the squad, but I keep getting overlooked.
“The door isn’t closed. He's picking other pl
ayers over me, but he’s the manager. If he loses it’s on him.”
