Northern Ireland win UEFA award for Women's U19 Championship performance

Northern Ireland Women's U19 team won the hearts of the nation with their performances at this summer's UEFA U19 Championship. And those displays haven't gone unnoticed in the corridors of power.

The NI women even made history when Louise McDaniel scored their first ever goal in a major tournament to earn a 1-1 draw with Scotland at Mourneview Park.

And now UEFA have recognised the spirit in which the girls battled as Alfie Wylie's side have been given the UEFA Fair Play award for their performances at the tournament.

NI began with a very strong display against eventual winners Spain. The hosts restricted their opponents to just a 2-0 success. Then came the historic draw against the Scots and, even though NI bowed out with a 6-0 reverse at the hands of Germany, it was a tournament to remember.
