Who is Jamal Lewis? Watch the Northern Ireland international net his first senior goal against Chelsea

By Gareth Hanna

Norwich were edged out of the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening, but not without putting up a huge fight.

The Championship Canaries pushed the Blues into extra-time and eventually penalties after Northern Ireland's Jamal Lewis netted an injury-time equaliser.

Chelsea did manage to win 5-3 on penalty kicks but who is the Northern Irish international who gave them a scare?

Who is Jamal Lewis?

Full name: Jamal Piaras Lewis

Born: January 25, 1998

Age: 20

Place of birth: Luton

Position: Left-back

Northern Ireland qualification: Lewis qualifies to play for Northern Ireland through his Belfast-born mother.

International appearances: Lewis played three competitive games for the Under 19s in 2016 but made his Under 21 debut only last summer.

Club history: Lewis began his career with St Martin's before being scouted by Luton aged just eight. After a year's break from football to concentrate on athletics, Norwich came calling. Quick progression through the Under 18s and Under 23s eventually led to his senior debut as a substitute against Brentford on December 22. He has started five of the club's six games since then.

Sporting prowess: Lewis was once rated as an up-and-coming athletics star. He raced for England Schools and was ranked in the top five in the country over 800m.

What has Lewis said about his meteroic rise?

He told the Norwich website canaries.co.uk: “I definitely have to pinch myself sometimes but the opportunities and chances I’m getting are things I knew were always going to happen. I just try to take them in my stride. I just want to be a consistent left-back for the team and help us get results. I want to play as many games as possible and keep winning games.”

And what about his first senior goal?

What better time to get it than in the 94th minute of an FA Cup replay at Stamford Bridge, even if Norwich did go out in the end? Here it is in all its glory:
