Wylie out to capitalise on Northern Ireland's friendly triumph

Women's International

By Stuart McKinley

Alfie Wylie wants his Northern Ireland women's team to build up a winning mentality ahead of one of the toughest games they have ever faced.

The girls will face former European champions Sweden in a World Cup qualifier next month and Wylie wants captain Ashley Hutton and co. to follow-up Monday's 1-0 friendly win over Estonia with a repeat performance when the teams meet again at Clandeboye Park this evening (7.45pm).

"I spoke to Sweden's coach Pia Sundhage at a Uefa conference and she said this is the fastest team she has ever worked with – and that's after winning two Olympic gold medals with the USA," said Wylie.

"We want to go into that match with a bit of confidence and self-belief and that's why it's important that we get a good performance and a win against Estonia."

e NORTHERN Ireland's under-19s lost 3-0 in their friendly with Switzerland at the Oval yesterday.

Stephen Craigan's team will meet the Swiss again tomorrow at Stangmore Park (2pm).
