Ards were dangerous foes: Gers chief
Ards 1 Carrick Rangers 3
Niall Currie got one over on his old team at the Bangor Fuels Arena as Carrick Rangers ran out 3-1 winners against Ards.
The visitors took the lead through Mark Surgenor after just five minutes took the lead after just five minutes and struck again just before the hour when Kyle Cherry's delivery was finished by Daniel Kelly.
Ards found a way back into the game when David McAllister produced a sublime cross which was guided home by the head of Michael McLellan.
New keeper Harry Doherty - who won the Cup with Crusaders last year - made a stunning save from William Armstrong to keep Carrick's lead intact before Lloyd Anderson netted the clincher.
"This was a dangerous tie for us," said Currie.
"Ards' starting line-up is full Premiership experience, so we knew we would have to fight for everything. We worked really hard and deserved our win."
