Nixon keeps faith that Ards can bounce back against league leaders

Ards 0 Cliftonville 1

By Keith Bailie

Ards manager Colin Nixon sees no reason why his team can't add to Coleraine's difficult week tomorrow night.

The two sides clash at the Showgrounds following weekend defeats and, after seeing his men lose 1-0 to Cliftonville at the Bangor Fuels Arena, Nixon said: "Coleraine's defeat against Linfield doesn't really come into it for me. Coleraine have been fantastic this season and one defeat doesn't change that.

"However, we have shown this season that we capable of giving the top teams in this league a game. We will be going to The Showgrounds with the aim of causing an upset.

"Against Cliftonville, we had a lot of the play in the second half and Cliftonville were wasting time which tells you something.

"We were unlucky not to get something from the game but, at the end of the day, it's another game where we have failed to score in Bangor and that's a concern.

"We're not creating enough chances and we're not scoring enough goals."

The only goal arrived in the 24th minute when Rory Donnelly teed brother Jay up for a firm finish, leaving Cliftonville gaffer Barry Gray to reflect: "It was a good defensive performance and that's important because earlier in the season our defence was criticised," he said.

"We held onto a lead for over an hour against a very capable team. Ards had very few chances from open play despite playing well and that's down to how we defended all over the park."
