Ards chairman Brian Adams has backed new boss Colin Nixon to make the club a formidable force in the Danske Bank Premiership.
The Glentoran legend succeeds Niall Currie, who left to take charge at Portadown, and the Newtownards man's first game in charge will be Saturday's trip to Coleraine.
Final interviews were conducted last night and Nixon, whose brother Darren and uncle Billy are former Ards captains, beat 12 other applicants.
Adams said: "Colin has his A coaching licence, excellent contacts and he's based in Newtownards which is important.
"He won 35 trophies with Glentoran and now he has a chance to shine as a manager.
"He knows Ards and John Convery through his role as head of youth development last year and he has a real passion for coaching.
"His first target will be to get us another 15 points which should secure our Premiership future, then stabilise the club and make us an established Premiership side."
