Irish Cup misery 'can fuel Ballymena United Euro mission'

By Graham Luney

Tony Kane plans to shake off the disappointment of Ballymena United's Irish Cup exit by helping to steer the club to a third-place finish in the Danske Bank Premiership and a place on the European stage.

The 29-year-old has been named Player of the Month for February by the Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association and it's the first individual honour for the versatile set-piece specialist. He said: "I think we've been the surprise package this season and it's a reflection of how hard we have worked from pre-season. We have reaped the benefits of that hard work.

"The Irish Cup defeat to Coleraine was hard to take but we hope to refocus and try to claim third spot in the league and qualify for a European place."
