Candystripes depleted but Shiels is in need of big lift

By Staff Reporter

Derry City will be without Ryan McBride and Harry Monaghan as they attempt to get back to winning ways against struggling Longford Town at the Brandywell tonight.

Defender McBride begins the first of a two-game suspension after his dismissal against Dundalk, while Monaghan continues to struggle in his recovery from a knee injury.

Kenny Shiels and his players are desperate to restore the early season optimism at the Brandywell, with the club having two weeks to dwell on their 5-0 defeat at the hands of the league champions a fortnight ago.

But having watched Longford push Stephen Kenny's team all the way in a 4-3 defeat at Oriel Park, the City boss has warned that it will be far from straightforward, despite Longford's lowly league position.

"They are a team which provides a lot of threat," he acknowledged. "They've just been to Dundalk and scored three goals in their last game. This league is very like that in that it ebbs and flows."
