Cliftonville snap up John Convery

John Convery says he's looking forward to a fresh start after completing his move from relegated Newry City to Cliftonville last night.

The 31-year-old central defender will join up with his new team-mates for pre-season training tomorrow.

"I'm pleased to have signed for Cliftonville because they're a club that is regularly challenging at the top end of the table," he said.

"I have to place on record my thanks to the chairman at Newry because, even though I still had a year to run on my contract, they were very helpful to me when I told them that I wanted to play in the Premier League."

Ex-Glentoran winger Peter Steele also put pen to paper at Solitude - adding an interesting new dynamic to the dressing room.

"Ronan Scannell was one of my teachers at St Comgall's College so it'll be odd to now be his team-mate," explained the 20-year-old.

Meanwhile, Coleraine have snapped up youngsters Richard Vauls and Ciaran Clarke.
