Cliftonville boss Barry Gray admitted his players had no excuses after being held by Dungannon Swifts.

The Reds needed an 88th-minute equaliser to bail them out at Stangmore Park, where they dominated the first half and wasted several good chances, but lost control of the game.

Afterwards, Gray said he was "massively frustrated", saying their performance fell well below the level he expected.

After an opening day win at Glentoran, then a last-minute home loss to Coleraine, he admits his side are still to hit top form.

"We are three weeks in now and we have been frustrated every week. It has been a very on-off start," he said. "We've maybe had excuses in the previous two weeks but today there is no excuse.

"Dungannon showed they were hungry for it and they took it to us for a patch. We gifted them the goal and had no real cutting edge - we didn't punish them when we had the chances to.

"Defensively, I thought we were a shambles at times. We can probably only pick two or three players who we're happy with."

Dungannon took the lead in the 62nd minute through Mark Patton before Donnelly's late show rescued a point.

Patton had mixed feelings on the result, saying: "To get a point, we're disappointed - we feel we should have got three - but maybe looking back in a couple of days' time it might be different."
