Ex-Linfield boss Warren Feeney will this week hold talks over the Cliftonville manager's job.

The 46-times capped Northern Ireland international, a Pro Licence holder with experience of management and coaching in England, is a shock candidate for the role that has also attracted interest from a host of applicants from the Republic of Ireland.

Former Derry City and Kilmarnock chief Kenny Shiels was an interested spectator at Solitude on Saturday when Cliftonville were held to a 1-1 draw with Glenavon, who levelled through Stephen Murray after Ryan Curran had swept the hosts into an early advantage.

After the game, chairman Gerard Lawlor explained: "We are very happy with the quality and quantity of applications from across Ireland and beyond for what is evidently a much-coveted position and, in the coming week, we will draw up a shortlist from those applications before assessing and discussing our options."

With Michael Press occupying the dugout in a caretaker capacity, it's understood that Cliftonville remain open to conducting some transfer business in the days ahead and there could be player movement both in and out ahead of any development on the managerial front.

One man definitely staying put is Glenavon boss Gary Hamilton who, despite being many Cliftonville fans' number one choice to replaced the sacked Barry Gray, reaffirmed his commitment to the Mourneview side and has urged his players not to lose faith in themselves after their Premiership winless run was extended to seven games.

"I think sometimes we're afraid to miss chances rather than thinking about taking them but that's a confidence thing that you expect when you're on the sort of run we've been on," he said.

"We got a good response after losing to Ballymena last week and I've told the players to take confidence from the performance and keep doing what they've been doing."
