Coleraine boss backs new forward to shine after move back to top level

Coleraine boss Oran Kearney has backed new signing Joe McCready to make a big impact for the Bannsiders.

The striker, who has joined the club from Limavady United, scored two goals on his debut against Ballyclare Comrades.

"I have watched Joe a lot in the last year," Kearney said. "I'm very close to Paul Owens and have kept in contact about how he was playing at Limavady. A lot of people throughout the league know about Joe's quality and we just wanted to ensure that he was able to sustain a year in the top flight.

"He showed last season at Limavady that the penny has dropped and he has knuckled down. There is no doubt about his quality and you could see that in his performance against Ballyclare.

“Hopefully he uses that as a springboard to kick on for the rest of the season.”

The 27 year-old previously played in the Premiership with both Institute and Dungannon Swifts.

McCready will have an even bigger job on his hands after fellow forward James McLaughlin was ruled out for the season. The 27 year-old scored 10 Danske Bank Premiership goals last season but suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury against Portadown in a pre-season friendly.
