Coleraine bring in midfielder Dean Shiels on 18-month deal
Coleraine have signed former Rangers and Derry City midfielder Dean Shiels on an 18-month deal.
Dean, who is the son of manager Kenny, is Rodney McAree's sixth signing of the January transfer window as the Bannsiders aim to solidify their spot in the top six of the league.
The 33-year-old has plenty of experience having played for the likes of Rangers, Kilmarnock, Hibernian and Doncaster Rovers in a storied career to date, which has also included stints with Dundalk, FC Edmonton and Dunfermline.
He's also been capped at international level, the Magharafelt man having featured 14 times for Northern Ireland under Lawrie Sanchez and scoring one goal for his country.
Most recently, Shiels was on the books of neighbours Derry, for whom he played 12 games before leaving the club at the end of the season.
Now he will bring his experience to the Showgrounds as McAree's side try to push up towards the top of the table.
"Dean will provide us with experience and the know how," said manager McAree. "He will add a level of professionalism not only on the pitch, but at training and around the club.

"His versatility means he can play in two or three different positions and that’s a massive boost. He comes with a good profile after a fantastic career over the water and hopefully he will provide and score goals here at Coleraine."
