Inverness boss 'hopeful' Darren McCauley deal will be completed
Inverness Caledonian Thistle are hoping the transfer of Coleraine winger Darren McCauley will so be completed.
The 27-year-old is understood to have agreed personal terms with the Scottish Championship side, who are set to see off interest from several clubs this side of the Irish Sea.
McCauley was transfer-listed by the Bannsiders after informing the club that he wanted a new challenge, leading to a chase for his services.
There was interest from champions Crusaders and Championship leaders Larne but League of Ireland side Derry were considered the favourites until the Scots came on the scene.
“He’s a player we are interested in," said Inverness manager John Robertson.
"We are still in negotiations and still talking about that. We have tracked Darren for a while and made our interest known, and it’s another deal we are hopeful we can get over the line, but until it is there is nothing more we can say.”
Caley are fifth in the Championship but with a strong finish to the campaign should make the play-offs.
It is expected that Coleraine will receive a nominal fee for the player who excelled last season and has been one of the shining lights for Rodney McAree's side this term.
He will always be remembered at the Showgrounds for his stunning Irish Cup final goal in May which inspired Coleraine to a 3-1 victory over Cliftonville.
