Crusaders smash Ballinamallard to knock Coleraine off top spot

Crusaders have knocked long-time leaders Coleraine off the top of the Danske Bank Premiership with a 3-0 win over Ballinamallard United.

The Crues eased to victory at Ferney Park in the only game of the day. Coleraine had been scheduled to host Linfield but their game was postponed, as was Dungannon's trip to Carrick Rangers.

The Mallards held out until half-time at 0-0 but Jordan Forsythe's looping 25-yard volley opened the scoring, flying into the top corner.

Matthew Smyth then sent Paul Heatley's cross into his own net and BJ Burns capped a fine day for the Crues, adding to his goal against Linfield on Saturday with another cracker, an unstoppable half-volley.

Crusaders are now a point ahead of Coleraine. Glenavon are 12 points adrift with two games in hand. The Lurgan Blues travel to face Ards on Tuesday evening.
