Crusaders to play Dundee United in Scottish Challenge Cup quarter-final

By Gareth Hanna

Crusaders are set to take on Dundee United in the quarter-final of the Irn Bru Scottish Challenge Cup.

The Crues, of course, beat Cove Rangers on Saturday to seal their place in the last eight of the competition while United snatched a late, late winner to oust Linfield 1-0, a result that Blues defender Mark Haughey felt was extremely harsh on the Danske Bank Premiership champions.

United will host Crusaders at Tannadice Park on either the 11 or 12 November.

Crusaders edged out Motherwell U20s in the first round thanks to a last gasp BJ Burns double. Saturday's second round victory over Cove Rangers was overshadowed by the death of Billy Whiteside, a lifelong club supporter and father of Crusaders treasurer Tommy. Billy collapsed after suffering a suspected heart attack at the game and medics were unable to revive him.

Scottish Challenge Cup quarter-final draw

Dundee United v Crusaders

The New Saints v Queen of the South

Inverness CT v Falkirk

Dumbarton v Raith Rovers
