Crusaders coast to third place with 3-0 win over Glentoran

By Gareth Hanna

A Rodney Brown double helped Crusaders coast into third place in the Danske Bank Premiership with a 3-0 win over Glentoran at the Oval.

Jordan Owens added a third goal to clinch a routine victory for Stephen Baxter's rampant side.

The match was broadcast live on Sky Sports but hosts Glentoran failed to give the viewers much to watch; too often surrendering possession cheaply and rarely looking a match for their superior opponents.

Owens and Paul Heatley both fired in early warning shots and there were only 11 minutes on the clock when Brown nodded in the opener at the near post. The Crues also hit the bar during a dominant first half display that saw the visitors fire in 15 shots; the only effort Glentoran could muster was a half-volley that Curtis Allen snatched high and wide.

The second period was three minutes old when Brown nodded home his second goal of the night and on 55, Owens made certain sure of the points, heading home unmarked from a delicious Billy Joe Burns cross.

On Saturday, Glentoran travel to Ards while Crusaders' next game is on Saturday October 14 at home to Glenavon.
