Jamie Glackin will have big boots to fill as he prepares to seal Crusaders deal

By Adam McKendry

Crusaders are set to announce the signing of midfielder Jamie Glackin from Dungannon Swifts as their summer recruitment continues.

The 22-year old will switch to Seaview for the new season, as confirmed by Dungannon Swifts on Tuesday morning, and will be tasked with replacing the outgoing duo of Richard Clarke and Michael Gault.

Glackin made 36 league appearances for the Swifts last season, contributing three goals in a year that saw them finish seventh and compete in the Europa League play-offs.

The former Northern Ireland U16 man is Stephen Baxter's fourth signing of the summer - following striker Mark McAllister, goalkeeper Brian Jensen and defender Sean Ward to Belfast as the Crues aim to regain the Gibson Cup from Linfield.

Meanwhile, Ards have released Jordan Hughes after the defender made just one start last season, along with 11 appearances from the bench.

And Coleraine have signed highly promising young midfielder Matthew Kirk from Newbuildings United on a two-year deal.

In the SSE Airtricity League, Derry City have announced that midfielder Nicky Low has extended his loan deal at the Brandywell until the end of the season.

Low, who is on loan from Scottish Championship side Dundee, has made 14 appearances for the Candystripes this season, lining out primarily as a central or attacking midfielder, but also playing on the right and left on occasion.
