Stephen Baxter admits FC Copenhagen were a different class against Crusaders

By Graham Luney

Stephen Baxter felt his Crusaders team couldn't live with the best European club side he has watched in Northern Ireland.

The Crues lost 3-0 to FC Copenhagen at Seaview in the Champions League second qualifying round tie, a scoreline which leaves the north-Belfast side's European hopes dangling by a thread ahead of Tuesday's rematch.

Goals from Federico Santander, Andreas Cornelius and Rasmus Falk inflicted the damage and Baxter was impressed by the classy Danes.

"In all my European experience, that is the best team I've come up against," said the Crues boss.

"Their passing, their movement, their first touch were all the best I have seen.

"I'm not at all despondent because you need to recognise the difference between the two clubs.

"Our players will have gained so much from the experience."

Cliftonville, the other Premier League side still in Europe, are back in Europa League action tonight, taking on AEK Larnaca of Cyprus at Solitude in a second qualifying round first leg clash (7.45pm).
