Darren Murray a diamond of find: Gerry Flynn
Gerry Flynn believes he has unearthed a gem in teenage striker Darren Murray.
And he believes that there is plenty of talent similar to the former Newington man just waiting to be discovered.
Flynn beat off competition from a host of his Carling Premiership rivals to win the signature of Murray — who also attracted attention from England in the shape of Swindon Town.
“Darren came on in our opening game and did well,” said Flynn (pictured), whose side faces table toppers Glentoran today.
“He is sharp, quick and skilful and he will be involved more and more as the season progresses.
“It’s a challenge for him and a step up from what he is used to with Newington, but I have no doubt that he is capable of making that step up, otherwise I wouldn’t have worked so hard to bring him to the club.”
After losing to Cliftonville last week Newry face the Glens today in the second of a trilogy of games against last season’s top three in the space of a month.
“We won’t fear anyone. This is a test of what we are capable of,” said Flynn.
