Dungannon Swifts 0 Glentoran 5

Conditions were difficult at Stangmore Park, where players battled against torrential rain for the most part.

Glentoran’s Stephen Carson proved a bright light, however, as the Belfast side cruised to a victory that wasn’t quite as comfortable as the scoreline suggests.

The Glens were a goal to the good at half-time and Carson reacted best from an interval telling-off to inspire his team.

The winger, hailed by manager Scott Young as being their key player with 78% of assists for all their goals this season, set Gary Hamilton up on 49 minutes, Andy Waterworth on 66 and Darren Boyce on 84 before Martyn scored his second in the final minute.

“The result is flattering for us and doesn’t give any credit to Dungannon who for large parts played really well,” said Carson.

“The first half was disappointing for me. I lost possession too easily a couple of times and I wanted to make up for that in the second half.

“Thankfully, I was able to supply some good crosses in the second half and found a couple of the guys in great positions and they put the ball in the net.”
